I've been reading a lot of Greek philosophy recently and just marveling at, especially in Plato and some of the Priusachratics. The thing is that these things had to be discovered and they could only be discovered through a relentless confrontation with chaos, which is the given. And so there's a lot under the hood when you look at sentences like the one you read,. Or for instance, another moment where she's talking about Ged's realizing how incredibly powerful and dangerous this shadow being is. She's adopting a voice from within her world. So it reads like a chronicle of Ged written in Earthsea.
