If you're building a gun for yourself, that is legal. But don't go 30 printing the parts to make your ARR 15 automatic,. Just know that that's highly illegal. For me personally, I'd probably say something like a shotgun would be the best home defense but they're not always readily accessible. You can't conceal a shotgun like you can't a pistol.
