An organ procurement organization or an OPO is a federally designated organization that facilitates all organ and tissue donation. There are 58 OPOs in the United States, each of us has a predetermined territory governed by Medicare. The process for procuring organs and tissue usually takes about a 24 to 48 hour process before the organs are allocated.
