I see one problem when you elevate a really good IC into a management position managing people directly. This eats a lot of time just from having to manage the people itself. I'm not yet sure what the correct balance is but as soon as you elevate yourself over to director and then you manage group yams then it's kind of over. You're not anywhere on the operational side where you can really influence the entire company rather than just like oh this is the super team that everybody kind of loves.
