When you get pregnant your requirements are going to go up. It's critically important to optimize maternal thyroid hormone function in someone who's taking thyroid hormone levothyroxine before they get pregnant and then to follow them carefully. The average requirement increase depends on the cause how much functioning thyroid is left so it can vary between maybe 25 to 40 percent 40 percent if your thyroid has been removed surgicallymaybe 25 to 30 percent if you have hypothyroidism Hashimoto's.
