Is There a One to Three Percent Acceptance Rate for EA?
There are lots of hedges in academia. Some people have reason to believe that their acceptance rate is much higher. So I think when you're in like active job search mode, you should probably apply for something like 20 things and just see what happens. In my personal case I applied for 20 jobs in 2019 when I was doing my big effective altruism job hunt as a high school teacher. And yeah, both the things I specifically thought with both the things were less likely than average but they were still good offers. That wouldn't have been worth me spending three hours talking to people upfront about whether I might not be a good fit for those two places. They both did not seem like the
