People with BPD have heightened intensity of activation of the amygdala which is basically kind of the emotional center of the brain. In response to that hyper a type of hyperactivity in response the the connected parts in the prefrontal cortex this sort of where my forehead is. Those are the parts of the brain that normally we all have to recruit online to deal with intense emotions and help us take perspectives, reflect on what we're feeling and figure out what we're actually going to do. But that part of the brain actually gets shut down for people with BPD in response to the hyper emotionality that's mediated in the amygdala.
