There was a report that Ben-Teen had turned bitter because Custer had pulled out after the Battle of the Washita in 1868. A day or two later, they were all found killed, scalped and mutilated. There was a story that Custer andBen-Teen had some hard words over that. But of course, I don't know how true that old story is. So there you go. Some psychological warfare going on there.
