The Power of the Dog by Jane Campion
This is Jane campion's first film with a male protagonist, which i think is great. The way that she conveys her feelings towards male masculinity and thiss, i think is really, really smart here. I'm just blown away by how campion weaves this all in through these brief, subtle, but extremely laird exchanges. They always feel so authentic to the time period and and to what these characters are actually going through. And it is another form of really, really good story telling.
