The Shame of Kafka

When you read the diaries does it feel like you're eavesdropping on something that's intensely private and Kafka really wouldn't have wanted anyone else to know or are they written more like a writer who is sitting down to write. My guess is his shame would have I think he felt this way about things he published in his lifetime including the metamorphosis there at diary entries where he says he shouldn't have published it because it never was the story it was meant to be.
