Wittgenstein's Motivation for Philosophical Clarity
The misunderstanding of Wittgenstein's early work as logical positivism, it seems to me wouldn't survive an understanding of the spiritual aspects of his work. The striving for philosophical clarity and the striving for personal decency were in Wittgenstein’s case two aspects of the same drive. Part of that, an important part of that, was ethical and spiritual. And it seemed to me that if you miss that, you miss what gives it for Wittgenstein, its motivation.
