The game was originally a companion piece to like a war game. The name of the game was allegedly chosen by Gary Gygax's two-year-old daughter, Cindy. There have been other media that has branched off from Dungeons and Dragons just most recently. It is owned by Wizard of the Coast who are owned by Hasbro.
