Emma is an expert on lighthouses. A friend of Emma's, who was a history teacher, had asked if she would come and give a talk to her high school class about women lighthousekeepers. She felt it was a brilliant opportunity to give the underappreciated female lighthapers some recognition. Her first thought was that she really must begin with Katherine Walker, who had tirelessly tended Robin's reef light in New York Harbor. Unlike many women who eventually tended their own light stations, Katherine Walker was not born into a lighthouse keeper's family.
