Post-Scarcity and the Challenge of Keeping It Down
We may well find that we reach basic post-scarcity in a few more decades, and golden age things for several centuries as our automation allows rapid rise of status. The future will not lack challenges or be boring, but I'd much rather we tackle those with plenty of resources on hand, and be able to enjoy ourselves while we're at it. That's the future we are likely to see, and its basic beginnings might not be too far away - maybe even here in many ways.
