Reading is actually really great for picking up vocabulary and idioms, yes. It's much easier than wu like, really in speaking we use them. But sometimes a big problem that i see is that learners will over use idioms. Ahand if you use too many of them, it sounds really unnatural. If you really want to get that point across, then ms are perfect. I dono if it's come in in other places, but, ya, it's true. It's better too quiet while reading.
