Dr. Robert Keegan, who is a Harvard psychologist or he was, he had a three step model. He calls the bottom stage the socializing self. This is where you're really trying to fit in and not being truly honest with everyone about who you are. The next level up from that is what Keegan would call the authoring self stage or self authoring. Dr. Keegan says that probably 98 to 95% of people never go beyond this stage Where they have their own view and everything's ultimately about them.
