More than 70,000 people have already been taken into custody. That's 1% of the country's entire population in prison. President Nia Bekele took office in 2019 and his tough stance on gangs has seen his approval rating soar. But at what cost? The strategy in El Salvador seems to be, first they arrest, then they tweet about it,. And then eventually in the future they might investigate this people. This is exactly the opposite of what has to be done under the rule of law in the democracy.
