What's the Use of the Periphery?

i'm interested in this because there is a use in having kind of collective nouns to refer to groups of people from multiple nations. U andn the west isn't going to do for most places. When anti authoritaran turks, ese from turkey, i see protest in lebanon or hong kong. Now they're usually oviously leftes that are, broadly speaking, in the west.
