The Democrats' View of the FBI

I think I'm teasing out of your question the possibility that other things could erupt, which would change the Democrats' view of the FBI. By the end of this year, we're going to have another row over whether Rule 7 or Section 702 gets extended and whether some of these Patriot Act provisions get reauthorized. What I'd worry about is that it would also weaken national security. We reluctantly have these powers on the books because we need them to protect the country from people who are actually trying to do harm to Americans.
