And similarly, there seem to be demonic reinforcements in heathen life that account for the almost superhuman grandeur of heathen empires,. especially just before they fall. Two particular notable passages in the old testament prophets link to this theme are the denunciation of babylon in isaiah 14, and of tyre in ezekiel 28.
