The Seven Safflewe of Antiquity
Pidicus of Mitelene is one of the seven safflewe, or wise men, of antiquity. He lived from 648 to 568 BC and had a law that doubled the penalty for offenses committed when drunk. His greatest motto was "Whatever you do, do it well" The oldest explicit mention on record of a standard list of seven sages is in Plato. We will discuss Thales, Kylon, and Solon, in our future episodes on Pre-Socratic philosophy,. Athens, and Sparta respectively.
