The History of Angkor Wat
During the 19th century colonial expansion, France claims a vast area of Southeast Asia. By this time Angkor is no longer a capital or even a city. The temples still hold sacred importance, but the local people farm and live in the shadow of the ruins. Conservation becomes a colonial endeavor for the French government. But as colonial powers seek to justify their occupation, the significance of Angkor increases.
