Schopenhauer's View on Happiness
Schopenhauer argues that pleasure is not happiness, or at least it's not sufficient for happiness. To schopenhauer, happiness can only be meaningfully defined as the absence of what we wouldcall suffering,. Not just physical pain, but suffering in the sense of mental anguish. Pleasure has nothing to do with it. In actual fact, pursuing pleasures a is necessarily detimental to happiness. That's essential to what the problem is, right?
