The Rise of the Trump Cultists

In 1992, as you no doubt remember, Democrats thought they were never going to win another presidential election. And Clinton came along and gave them a victory at really the most important time for them. The way he did it by being this sneaky, dishonest, different splitting, triangulating, oe-e-aginous, obvious liar left an impression on people. He was seen as being clever and as a really subtle political operator. That's representative of a particular moment in our politics that everyone knows our lies, but still saying we know it's a lie.
