The Tension Between Peasant Families and the Commons
Chris Maych, who is author of the same other farm pre-future that you mentioned, he has a great article in Land Magazine talking about there's been a historical perennial tension between individual kind of peasant families and the commons. We need to think in terms of nested commons, where a family structure - these days you can define family in many different ways -- is itself a form of Commons. And then we have more village community neighborhood scale, and that is itself a forms of Common. Then of course that's embedded within a larger watershed, and the watershed itself needs to be in some way to manage it as a commons.
