The Importance of Community in Growing Up
LZ Granderson: I can't wait to read this book. It's so reminiscent of my childhood. We moved from West Berkeley, which was very mixed Japanese, black, Chinese, Mexican and then our parents moved to an almost all white neighborhood in the late 60s. And it was trying to grow a childhood in a place where no one had ever been around a family of color. The community is what really makes part of growing up and develops your childhood into you being a person who can ask questions, raise your hand, and do your best. Just be who you are.
