What's exciting about the prospects for theoretical physics? I would prombly divide the up into various categories. There are things we might hope to do with experiment and there are things where we just have big theoretical puzzles that we don't know how to solve. In the first set, in the experimental case, what i think we have a realistic hope for over the next decade or so, is identifying the dark matter.
