The Life of Abraham Lincoln
Tarbell's next assignment was a biography of abraham lincoln. She travelled to washington, d c to conduct research there. The final result was an eight part biography that was enormously successful for the magazine. It was credited with increasing circulation from 24 thousand to a hundred thousand subscribers. As with her napoleon series, in 19 hundred, this was printed as a book. By this point, the us had entered the period of social activism and reform known as the progressive era.
