The writer's strike is an interesting strike because it's basically just self-employed writers who are going on strike. The main reason for the strike is that the old world of movie and TV writing had longstanding norms in terms of this number of writers per show, how much they would get paid and what kind of residuals they would get. And the streaming services don't work in the same way. It makes it impossible for junior writers to come up through the system anymore.
