The buddhist ching circulated in an oral form, probably for four centuries after the death of the buddha. It was the personhood of jesus which was most striking. The contrast with jesus was palpable. Kaniska found in the gospels, a disturbing figure who was simultaneously earthy and claimed things about himself that were outrageous.
