Blood Meridian Is an Obsessional Foundational Work
There are a handful of books that feel like the characters live beyond the page. Colson Whitehead said he's always reading Moby Dick. Blood Meridian is that kind of obsessional foundational work. The entire thing is a metaphor for the American experiment, the American project. You could very easily do a PhD saying the kid is America and this is what is meant by that.
