The Importance of Reading Books That Wounded and Stun Us

I think we ought to read only the kinds of books that wound and stab us. If the book we are reading doesn't wake us up with the blow on the head what are we reading it for? A book must be the axe for the frozen sea inside us. That was Franz Kafka in a letter in 1904. I just can't stand my phone but I made a note of this to myself the other day. This, this is sort of my view it may well be your view as well as a space it's completely counter to all of the ideas of the day.
