The Importance of Adam Driver's Movie

I don't understand why he did this movie. I know he made like $6 million, $7 million good for him, but Adam Driver is Star Wars Adam Driver. He can get a franchise if he wants a franchise. There's whole rumors right now that he's going to be Mr. Fantastic in Fantastic Four. That at least makes sense as a franchise play. This made no sense to me.
