She was James Madison's help mate and his partner in all of the things that he did from running the plantation to serving in Congress. She ended up retiring to Washington DC where she was sort of the senior. Madam is not the right word but you know like the senior sort of woman in town. Her letters and diaries are remarkable to read so her last years she has to sell off the plantations because no good son or surviving son has been bankrupt.
