The Power of Anna Mendiette

Anna Mendiette's work was all made in the 70s and it feels unbelievably relevant now. She re-enacts the rape of a nursing student that happened in the University of Iowa campus. And she stays there for an hour in this position as this raped and murdered body, documents it in photographs. What's interesting about them is that they're not about victimhood. They are furious. It's not that she's just saying a bad thing happened, help. She's saying, fucking look at this. You absolutely can't and you're pulled into it in such a sort of complicated way.
