There's an idea of high context culture and low context culture. High context culture is full of this kind of indirect communication. So instead saying, will you pass me the stalk salt, you say, is there any salt? And so sometimes someone is saying something like that, because what? There's a in coated stuff which is basically around 'I would like to stop for a milk shake'
