The Origin of Chickens - Is Perching an Instinct?
Lorry's original chickens prefer not to sleep in the and stay in the coop. It may be that they didn't really have much experience of these perches or elevated structures when they were younger. There are some differences between strains in motivation and also physical ability to get on the perch. If they're heavier, they may find it's harder to get up from the ground as well. Even within chickens, they're all individuals,. they're all different, so there is room for them to have different preferences about how they how they use their environment.
