The Essence Energy's Distinction
St. Gregory Palmas, who we just commemorated this past Sunday in the Orthodox Church, is getting at with the Essence Energy's distinction. He tries to explain why your average illiterate monk in his day through a life of prayer and Christian discipline could come to truly know God. And so he makes this distinction that when, for example, the love of God, which is one of the divine energies, God is continually and eternally loving his creation.
