In the beginning of his scientific career, at least as a psychologist, i was a neurobiology major. My first study with marty seligman just showed that young people who were better able to choose longer term rewards over immediate gratifications predicted their year end ort card grades better than others. So for me, it was the first step in this journey to say, well, it can't all be about your measured i c. Because look, here's report card grades that depend also on this thing that is not very highly correlated with your i c.
