Introduction
In 2021, Attorney General Merrick Garland halted all federal executions pending a review of Trump-era policy changes. Now just under two years later, Garland has withdrawn the death penalty against dozens of defendants while allowing prosecutors to move forward with capital cases in a few select instances. To get a sense of Garland's thinking and DOJ's current approach, I'm joined by Sadie German who covers the Justice Department for the Wall Street Journal.
