The Jin and the Christian Concept of Demons
The Jin are another type of creature created by Allah along with angels, humans and plants. Less exalted than angels, Jin rank above humans and some aspect, some below them and others. In western Arabia where Islam is born, one of the many roles of the Jin was to inspire poets and soussayers. The ability to recite beautiful poetry or to foretell the future was taught to be a sign of being possessed by the Jin.
