The Origins of Sovereignty
In many cases the Romans took over and developed on those ideas with the word you've once said miasstas. Did they put any sort of spin on what the Greeks had done, did they develop it or just accept it and get on with it? One of the things the Romans do is develop more of a legal framework for thinking about how the people might entrust their sovereign powers to their rulers. The sovereignty was juridical, it wasn't a question of power, it's a completely different thing. And even in the Roman Empire, the people have to confer their powers on the emperor in order for the emperor to be sovereign.
