The Journey to a Master's Degree
In his fourth year of university, John Whiting gave a guest lecture. He was one of the founding fathers of movement skill acquisition and motor learning in the UK. At that time, if somebody wanted to do a master's degree, I didn't dare think of it jumping from an undergrad to a PhD degree. When he applied to go there, literally I applied a bit late. But lucky for him, David Suntan, who did his PhD with Jack Keough at UCLA, had taken over the course from John Whiting. James Gibson's book Visual Perception changed my life again. Suddenly this notion of my brain's autopilot when adapting to the environment made more sense.
