The Role of Technology in Indigenous Journalism
Indigenous journalists in the United States and Canada are well aware of social actions in Canada and vice versa. The past five years have seen a surge of mainstream reporting on indigenous issues in Canadian media as a result of both the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the indigenous led Idle No More movement. Stereotypes like the deficit model over emphasis of conflict between two parties instead of multiple parties and perspectives is common, authors say. Indigenous journalists working in the U.S. describe a differently configured landscape in which erasure of indigenous presence and concerns is common.
