In 1929, a female hormone was isolated followed by estriol. Both hormones were classified together as estrogen. Progesterone was isolated and described for the first time in 1934 testosterone in 1935. By the 1940s, the first injectable hormones had been developed making what we now know as hormone replacement therapy possible.
