The Dynamics of the Security Council Around the Conflict in Sudan
The UN Security Council has met once to discuss this, an issue to press statement that was fairly strong on the parties calling for a ceasefire and for them to protect civilians. I think there is a fairly widely shared sense that the risk of an escalation and a regionalization of this conflict is in no one's interests. Even China and Russia, I think, fear what an uncontrolled situation in Sudan could look like. At the same time, I think there are groups like Wagner, which we know operates at the behest of the Russian government,. And there may be other regional states that see opportunities in all of this.
