The Facebook Oversight Board

I think it's a real blind spot in all these social media companies, to be honest. It's one of the things that bothered me about the first break out documentary about social media content moderators. And think it was called the cleaners get a good documentary. Because the work they're doing is editorial work. They're actually doing something more like an editor or a judge. Is that movie investigative journalism that should stay up in the public interest, or is it just a snuff film? That's a fine grained distinction that requires real cultural competence and knowledge. But facebook doesn't treat it that way. These guys that we talk to are at the very bottom of the totum pole.
