During vagant meditation, your body rests goes all the way down. In novice meditators who've only been meditating one week, they get a drop of oxygen consumption by 20%. Longer term meditators start hitting the minus 50 oxygen consumption while meditating. The red blood cells themselves are consuming less oxygen because that body doesn't need to be breathing lots of air in and out. And so your body begins to rest very, very deeply. This is shown by and you feel this when you meditate. Your breath gets soft and allow and sometimes it even appears to stop. It is actually still going.
