You can always choose to pay a little bit more and get a non cancellable contract. That means that the insurance company cannot change the terms of your contract. As long as you pay the premiums, you can renew the contract every single year. It doesn't matter what's happening with your job. You don't need to even tell them anything. If you are unemployed, it can be more difficult to prove that you are partially disabled. So if you were working for a 25 % decrease in earnings because you had fewer hours at your work would be enough to qualify for a partial disability benefit if you were worked full time.
