The Atonement of Moses

Moses as the leader of God's people steps in and he tries to intercede on their behalf. He says, Father, I need you to forgive them for they know not what they do. Moses: "I'll be their atonement. Ahead of them, just take me." In a seeming another act of disappointment, God doesn't acquiesce. But since centuries later, with the problem of disobedience and idolatry and sin still plaguing mankind, God decides to send a truer and better Moses.
